This piece has been pinned to my design wall for just about 6 weeks now. Not as long as some pieces have lived there, but it didn’t need too much to finish it. I just needed to figure out how to get where I wanted to go. Today I got there.
No pictures to document what I did, but I’ll describe it. I wanted this to be trees with leaves but I couldn’t decide on what type of leaf to make. I remembered doing “snippets” and thought I’d try a version of that. I took a piece of my hand dyed fabric that had the colors I wanted and chopped it into pieces with a pinking blade on my cutter. Then I scattered the pieces on a hunk of fusible. The fused scrap ‘sandwich’ was torn into sections and placed on top of the tree trunks. The pieces look large in this picture, but the largest one here is probably a 1/4″ square-ish size. The whole thing is about 18″ x 20″.
I know there is a confetti quilt technique, but that is covered with tulle before quilting and I didn’t want the tulle. This worked just fine.
I quilted with a variegated thread from the top and a copper colored metallic from the bobbin. I even quilted in my signature!
I finished it with a corded binding and now it only needs a rod to hang it from!
