Look up AND look down!

Where do you get your inspiration? I have found mine more than once in hotel carpet designs. This is what I found last weekend.

IL carpet inspiration

I can pretty much see another composition coming, based on this little bit of color and swirl.

Look around you–design inspiration is everywhere!

  1. I wasn’t really noticing hotel carpets until you mentioned them. You are so right. This one is a good one. Thanks for sharing.

  2. The first time I went to Europe (at an advanced age and already a quilter), I toured most cathedrals with my head down amazed at the floors. All the other tourists were gawping at the domes, vaulted ceilings, and stained glass while I shuffled along taking pictures of the floors. I came home and made a quilt of a portion of Saint Mark’s floor. I always check out floors, carpets, manhole covers, paver patterns, etc. with the added bonus that I don’t trip as often as I would if I were only looking up.

    • I don’t think I’ll be doing anything with it right away…too many ideas in my head before it! But it’s in the inspiration file!

  3. I love hotel carpet. They can be like multiple compositions in one! I always take photos of it. You used to be able to find wonderful designs on there drapes too but not so much any more.
