Never brag

That was ingrained into us from a young age…never brag, always be humble even if you have something to be proud about. ‘Hope you don’t break your arm patting yourself on the back’ was our sarcastic way of putting someone in their place. I’m in danger of hurting myself right now! My goal of always having a quilt ready to stitch on is paying dividends.

Whenever I have a few minutes to spare, I head downstairs. I can sit right down at the machine and stitch for a bit. It’s only been a few days and I think I may have this almost half done. And if you don’t keep spreading it out to see how much is done, it seems to get done even faster. I originally thought I’d have some big chunks of free time to get this done in a week, but that is unlikely to actually happen. No matter. A bit at a time is working just fine. I don’t care about the bragging right now—good job, Kathy!!!

And I like my plan so much that I want to have another quilt ready as soon as this one is done! The college football season is ramping up, we’ve renewed our hockey season tickets and I’m motivated! I have a Michigan quilt top sitting in the pile. It’s time!

The middle blocks of this quilt were made as I was just beginning to explore improv quilting so that’s at least a dozen years ago. They are original yet still traditional in feel. Aaaaand they sat on a shelf for years! In a prior attempt to turn this into a useable quilt, I added all the rest of the Michigan fabric that I had. It was long enough, but still super skinny so back on the shelf it went.

Into the current time zone, and my determination to clear off those shelves WILL get this finished. I picked up a few more small chunks of Michigan fabric for mask making last year, so I have some of that left.

And a few months ago I realized that I had zero yellow in my stash pallette, so I stocked up on that.

I’m ready to add a few inches to each side of the quilt to make it a reasonable size and then that will be the next quilt I will have ready to quilt.

I am determined to stick with this plan for as long as possible. It actually works!

Quilt on!

    1. Oh, I know that team specific items can be off-putting, but we all have our favorites! Yes, I always refer to my fabrics as my palette. Just as in painting, you cannot create without a full range of color!

  1. Brag away, every right to do that. Great quilts. That is my goal after we get moved. I want to change my email for your blog and having an issue with it. Might just sign up and again if I don’t figure that out and delete this one.
Love seeing what you are doing. And look forward to getting settled in my new studio.
Vivian, look forward to getting back to my blogging also.

    1. I’m finding that having a quilt ready to work on during any spare moment is actually resulting in finished quilts! Amazing!

And I have looked at everything I can find to change your email address, but there has not been a place where I can do that. You probably DO have to delete and re-sign up. Sorry!

    1. Yes, at one time I had a sample of that green and white but it went to the baby of a grad. I’m always thankful that we are not a house divided when it comes to college sports!
