Virtual learning

Through the internet, everything is available………everything! Most notable this year is virtual schooling. My grandson does not thrive on it and wants to be back in school, in person, full time! I’m realizing that I feel the same way.

I have participated in lots of on-line learning over the years, and much more of it recently. I really don’t do that well with it. I don’t pay attention very well in class, I’m easily distracted and quite frankly, pictures of quilting instruction don’t do much for me. I was asked to do video demos and I’m glad I said no. I was not interested in the learning curve and equipment involved in that type of production——-and I am totally in awe of school teachers who just picked up and DID it! All of you who are creating and learning from virtual sources are a wonder. Technology is amazing.

It’s simply not what works for me. Am I missing out on lots of valuable instruction and information? Perhaps. Am I satisfied with working on my own? Pretty much. I very much miss the social interaction of my creative groups. I also miss all the theater arts that we can’t produce and participate in right now.

I thought I was a happy hermit, and for the most part, I am. But when it comes to lesson time, I want that in-person instruction! And after teaching a little workshop a couple of weeks ago, I still love being that instructor.

I guess I’m hoping for very aggressive, science-based action to get this virus under control and a vaccine to prevent it. In the meantime, I’m sure I’ll be much like everyone else…working on old and new projects, trying to be creative and positive and wishing for free and easy times again.

  1. My sentiments exactly! I’m glad to see your social gathering was less than 10 or someone on seeing this post might turn you into the covid police. And, oops, nobody is wearing masks. You’re really in for it. I’ll come visit you with a file in a cake.

(looks like you are all having fun)

    1. I am definitely not a very social person, but I seem to have too much trouble concentrating when it’s a virtual presentation. In person, I simply pay closer attention!

    1. Pfizer’s news was certainly a boost to hope today and I’m hoping we can soon conquer this rotten virus! I’m pretty sure that virtual learning will be a big part of our future, though I will always prefer in person groups and learning!

    1. I hear ya! I never characterized myself as a hermit. This is horrible for me. I am very much a hands on learner. I do however enjoy having access to teachers I shouldn’t normally have available to me so there is that. I just think the whole classroom experience of seeing other peoples take on the instruction is very much worth the time and trouble of hauling my stuff there. I really, really miss my peeps in all areas of my life. I think we have a ways to go but listening to the general in charge of tactical delivery of a vaccine to the masses outline their plans to be ready for a boots on the ground roll out was very encouraging for sure!

      1. Yes, that is the ‘normal’ to which I want to return! My prayer is that the science unbelievers will find their brains or be forced to do things that will slow this pandemic until we get that promising vaccine. Pandemic begone!!!!!!!!!!πŸ’€πŸ˜·πŸ˜·πŸ˜·πŸ’‰
