The next step in creating my map quilt is making this heavily populated area look like a heavily populated area. That means adding buildings and more buildings and not very much green space. I have a couple of fantastic stencils that are perfect for this. I used an uneven blend of black and several blue colors–dark but not dulled down.
Waiting for the paint to dry always tests my patience. In this case, however, my time was only enough to get paint on this before I had to go.

I like this piece in it’s entirety, but it’s destined to be cut into smaller sections. I did not do any checking before adding the building areas but I think it will still be all right. I need to make sure that each section gets its green space and water areas.

Then I can pick and choose which roads to emphasize and which to ignore. Layering and stitching is on the agenda now. I think I’ll use felt instead of batting since I’m not concerned with ‘soft and cuddly’.
Random is still high on my list of techniques for choosing fabric scraps and painting! It works really well for the kind of abstract creations that I make.
And now, back to waiting for the paint to dry………and time to stitch some more!
